Emerging challenges in implementing the common market protocol for free movement of goods in the East African community

This paper delves into the intricate challenges encountered by Tanzania in effectively implementing East African Community (EAC) Common Market Protocol (CMP) pertaining to seamless movement of goods Kenya. The research adopts a case study design, employing qualitative and in-depth methods gather data. data collection process utilizes purposeful sampling technique involving 30 participants, thematic analysis is employed for analysis. findings highlight several tariff barriers that hinder effective implementation EAC CMP, including customs duties, quantitative restrictions, measures with equivalent impact those restrictions. Furthermore, uncovers non-tariff (NTBs) impede free from Kenya, such as political barriers, high transportation costs, food insecurity, discrepancies standards, limited logistics trade services, restricted access finance. concludes Partner States bear responsibility eliminating existing restrictions obstruct trade, well refraining imposing new ones. significantly contributes our understanding economic integration within shedding light on novel CMP concerning goods.
